A railway linking the cities of Lijiang and Shangri-la, two well-known tourist destinations in southwest China's Yunnan Province, opened to traffic on Sunday, according to local authorities. With the operation of this 139-km railway, the fastest trip between the two cities only takes 1 hour and 18 minutes. TOKYO, Japan - Actress Kyoka Suzuki hands flowers to two conductors of Shinkansen bullet-train Hayate in a ceremony held at JR Tokyo Station on Dec. 1 to mark the start of an extended Tohoku Shinkansen service to Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture. The extension enables passengers to travel between Tokyo and Aomori prefectures in less than three hours.
